EX FTP Server Directory Structure

The EX FTP Server contains all the data sets that have been transferred from the ship during a cruise.

The order in which data sets come ashore are prioritized on the ship. The priority will be changed depending on the nature of the current operations. The data transfer system is automated and files are continuously moved ashore as bandwidth allows. Below is a brief description of where different data set are stored on the FTP.

Once you have accessed the EX FTP server (instructions can be found here) you will need to select the current cruise identifier. Once you drop that file down you should see the following choices:

CTD: This folder contains the data collect from the ship’s CTD as well as the data collected from the ROV’s CTDs and the ship’s XBTs. You can also access the ASVP files from the XBT casts here.
EK60: This folder contains data collected by the ship’s 18kHz EK60 split beam fisheries sonar.
Annotations: This folder contains the text files of the seascribe annotations. For more information on SeaScribe, please visit this page.
Chat Room: This folder contains the text files.
Imagery: This folder is subdivided by day and ROV dive. Open any of the subfolders to access frame grabs taken from the video.
Multibeam: This folder is subdivided by day. Each day the mapping team creates daily products of the bathymetry that has been collected during the cruise. Each new daily products include all the data collected up to that point in the cruise unless the data set are too big and then a new series of daily products is started and will be noted in the file name as DLY02 and so on.
Products: This folder contains following series of subdivsions:
- CTD Cast Summaries: This folder contains the written summaries of each CTD cast. These are often not finalized until the end of the cruise.
- Highlight Imagery: This folder contains some of the best images of the cruise as choosen by the telepresence engineers.
- Highlight Video: This folder contains the highlight video clips from the cruise. The telepresence engineers edit and create the highlight clips as time allows on the ship.
- POD: This folder contains the Plans of the Day from the ship.
- ROV: This folder is subdivided by ROV dive. The ROV navigator at the end of each dive creates a series of products such as down-sampled ROV tracks, the virtual targets dropped by the ROV, and other summary products. Some of these products will not be completed until the end of the cruise.
- ROV Summaries: This folder contains the written summaries of each ROV dive. These are often not finalized until the end of the cruise.
- Trackline: This folder contains daily tracklines for the ship.
SBP: This folder contains the data collected by the 3.5 kHz sub-bottom profiler.
SCSData: This folder contains data collected by the ship’s scientific computing system. It is not recommended that you access this data unless you are familiar with SCS.
UPLOAD: This folder is for file transfers between members of the science party. All active participants in the cruise have permission to upload files; see here for more information.
Video: This folder is subdivided by day and/or ROV dive. It contains compressed video clips from ROV dives. Frequently, it takes 24-72 hours after a dive for this folder to be populated.
