bocaccio

The bocaccio is the "poster child" for an overfished species, currently estimated to be 2 - 4% of their original biomass. Bocaccio have been important to both commercial and recreational fisheries for several decades. After 8 dive days on Heceta Bank we've seen five individuals on the bank. This individual is estimated to be 80 cm in length (max. size is 91 cm.). The maximum age of this species is not well understood, but it is thought to be at least 50 years.
