This push core was collected adjacent to a Madrepora colony, to the right of a site marker (the bright yellow Whiffle ball filled with cement). As the core is pulled from the sediment, a vacuum is created within the tube, holding the sample in place. The push core is then placed in a quiver to secure it until the remotely operated vehicle is recovered. Video courtesy of Lophelia II 2009: Deepwater Coral Expedition: Reefs, Rigs and Wrecks.
