A deep-sea shrimp (Bathypalaemonella) finds a home in the center of a soft coral (Chrysogorgia) at 2,558 meters (8,392 feet) depth. The coral, resembling the size of a stick of cotton candy, may provide protection for its associated shrimp, which apparently remains within the coral’s interior branches. We will conduct genetic tests to determine if these shrimp are the same species that inhabit Chrysigorgia on North Atlantic seamounts.
