Our in-situ mass spectrometer consists of the analyzer and the turbo pump; a membrane inlet system that allows us to take the gases out of seawater; a place to store the exhaust gases; some other valves and electronics; and a chassis that houses all of the components together. This fits inside a pressure housing, allows us to put the instrument on the vehicle, and operate up to depths of 4500m. Video courtesy of Expedition to the Deep Slope 2007, NOAA-OE.
