We send the rotary time-lapse cameras to the bottom using Jason’s free-release elevator. Here we can see Jason at the elevator on the bottom at 2100m removing the “L” camera unit for the start of what would be a 14-day deployment. The “L” camera unit is called ‘”Louie.” Louie in air weighs over 100-lbs. But underwater, thanks to a 17-inch hollow glass sphere on top, it is only has about 7-lbs of positive buoyancy. Releasing the 25-lb barbell weight from the bottom will cause Louie to come to the surface for recovery. Audio courtesy of Ian MacDonald, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
