A diversity of life clusters in and around the Lophelia coral at Vioska Knoll. Shown here are zooanthid polyps on glass sponges, an urchin, small galatheid crabs (also known as squat lobsters), a brittle seastar, and gorgonian corals in the background. Notice how clear these images are, as compared to the post-Hurricane Katrina images in the Vioska Knoll Seafloor Life video clip. The visibility was greatly reduced after the hurricane passed over the Vioska Knoll area. Video footage courtesy of Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute.
