A copepod being prepared for an electrophysiological experiment. Dr. Cohen is placing a copepod in an experimental chamber and inserting the recording wire into the photoreceptor cells. The experimental chamber is inside a metal cage covered in black cloth to keep out light and prevent electrical noise of nearby equipment from interfering with the measurements. To his left is various equipment for producing light of a desired color and intensity, and for amplifying the electrical signal from the photoreceptor cells.
